WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo welcomes Winter with surprise snow!

To mark the start of winter, our team at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo had some fun this morning using the snow from the sub-Antarctic penguin exhibit next door at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, bringing snow to our native Australian animals! Some had never seen snow before – so their reactions were a mixed bag! Ringo the wombat couldn’t get enough of it, while Kofi was a little more hesitant!

Sydney’s most eligible bachelor, Kofi the Endangered Goodfellow’s tree kangaroo was first up. He was  a little unsure of the snow at first and even knocked over a mini snowman!

The zoo’s four female Tasmanian Devils - Mirrin, Dharra, Nara and Bluey were next to experience the snow. As their name suggests, they were incredibly comfortable and became vocal with excitement. Using their incredible sense of smell and climbing skills, they found hidden treasures like pieces of meat and bones, hidden around the zoo's interactive pop-ups.

The true star of the morning was none other than Ringo, the zoo's rescued wombat! Slow to start, Ringo waddled over from his burrow, taking up his first opportunity to frolic in the snow, alongside his five yellow-footed rock-wallaby friends.

Enrichment activities play a crucial role in providing the animals with opportunities for physical exercise, mental stimulation, and the freedom to make choices about how they spend their time. The snow will serve as a creative outlet for the animals, enhancing their overall well-being.
